President’s New Year Message in 2016
<< New Year’s resolution>>>
I wish you Happy New Year. This is the year of monkey in the Chinese Zodiac and the 12th anniversary of founding our NPO, too, same as happy one 12-year cycle of the Chinese Zodiac. I heartily appreciate the support all of you have extended to our NPO.
The last year was 150th anniversary of establishing Yokosuka Iron Mill and Shipyard.
In Yokosuka city where Japan’s modern industry started there were events and ceremonies to praise Oguri Kozukenosuke Tadamasa of Edo Government’s commissioner of finance and Verny of French engineer. Following this milestone, a trend that technologies, industries, tourism and education in Yokosuka and the surrounding area should be rebuild and become active will hopefully be growing.
“Japan Revitalization Strategy (Growth Strategy) 2015” approved in the Cabinet last June including“Reform 2020”Projects lists up company’s strength to earn and growth strategy. It looks back and describes that not only companies but also people have not completely drawn view for the future. It also describes that things depend on if each individual and each region succeed at “productivity revolution” of realizing their potential. It concludes that growth strategy must always advance in order to accomplish both economic regeneration and fiscal consolidation. However there is only a little description about nature of society to be aimed, corporate social responsibility, policies for small and medium-sized enterprises including small and micro enterprises and tackling an issue of increasing number of working elderly people. Therefore I am seeing society of competition principle behind those descriptions. I wonder if there is something left behind and it really draws whole view for future. Some of our major goals are to work with citizens to make the local communities better and for the local business revitalization. In a relationship between“Japan Revitalization Strategy (Growth Strategy) 2015” and those goals our NPO will see if there are some fields for us to support and what are specific activities we can do.
As far as “a Country of Tourism” ,for example, is concerned, Kanagawa Prefectural Government is progressing the plan of developing some new tourist centers. Not only Yokosuka City but also Miura City, taking their advantage of neighboring the Metropolitan area, are developing different plans and policies such as redeveloping tourist sights and responding increase of empty houses related to the aging society. Under those circumstances our NPO may find some places to work. Those plans and policies are really expected to actually provide us for opportunities to work.
Major goals of our NPO this year are firstly to sufficiently perform volunteer work with the citizens following guidelines of local government, secondly as a measure of meeting the aging society to provide senior citizens for some fields where they work actively, resulting into getting new members with spirit of dedication and lastly to support small and medium-sized enterprises including small and micro enterprises more deeply and increase number of such enterprises.
This is the year of a sexagenary cycle, the thirty-third cycle called “Heishin (Hinoe-saru)”. Also the year for us to renew the qualification as an authorized NPO. It is considered that “Heishin (Hinoe-saru)” is cheerful, propagate well and grow fast and strongly. Our NPO is a group of seniors and therefore is going to grow steadily, unlike “Heishin (Hinoe-saru)”. I will appreciate it if all of you will support us continuously and even more.
