Friendly Baseball Game Of Japan Versus Russia In Yokosuka Where Young Players Of The Two Countries Interacted With Each Other

The Russian team named “Panthera tigris altaica (“Amur Tigers” in English)” consisted of those selected from youths in Khabarovsk, surprisingly including 3 females. They paid a courtesy visit to Mayor Yoshida of Yokosuka City. Following Mr. Yoshida’s welcome speech they had a chat about baseball and each other’s home town as well.

On the other hand the Japan team was the one called “Yokosuka Chuo Senior” and all its members were junior high school boys in Yokosuka.

When both teams were in practice before the game, Mr. S. Koizumi, a member of the House of the representatives appeared in the stadium and inspired them all to play with all their might but fairly.

The game was held at Yokosuka Stadium on August 26 and Japan won in the score of 4 versus 1. It was remarkable the way for Russia to get the one point was an inside-the-park home run.
NPO Association for Baseball Popularization in the Worldwide and Japan Russia Youth Exchange Center jointly organized this game.
